Afternoon
We had started across the field holding hands, talking
Of the things we were going to do
Missy was running in front of us, chasing butterflies and barking at them
As they would fly away
We were walking to a small lake where we could get relief from the summer
heat
We would place our feet in the
water, letting them cool
The late afternoon sun was high in the western sky
I could feel its warmth on my back as we walked
Your face showed the love you have for both of us
Knowing that my love would be there forever more
And Missy’s love was that of a dog for its master
Sitting with our feet cooling in the water
You placed your tender body next to mine
As I kissed you softly telling you of my love
We slippped slowly...
